Social Services Assistant - 2 positions

The Social Services Assistant will report directly to LaFF’s Executive Director. 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·        will work as a member of the facilitation team with a focus on family and community connections

·         will assist in the coordination of the following food security activities: planting, harvesting and dehydrating vegetables and herbs, growing microgreens, processing community gleaned food, canning, stocking the food cupboard, preparing meal packages, distributing prepared meals, and helping to organize special food events

·         will be involved in family programming activities including craft program, upcycling creative craft activities, storytelling, circle time, programming set up and take down, sanitation of shared toys, sorting the clothing exchange, and helping in the kitchen with meal preparation

·         will cut fabric, sew bags, flags and other unique items to add to creative craft packages

·         will gain hands-on experience taking photographs, creating social media content, and producing tags and promotional materials using Canva

·         will contribute to climate resilient gardening and restoration efforts, such as planting, watering, caring for outdoor learning areas, and supporting the re-establishment of plants to create welcoming, sustainable spaces for families.

Skills required.

·         Adaptability - the ability to achieve or adjust goals and behaviours when expected or unexpected change occurs, by planning, staying focused, persisting, and overcoming setbacks

·         Collaboration - the ability to contribute and support others to achieve a common goal

·         Communication - the ability to receive, understand, consider, and share information and ideas through speaking, listening, and interacting with others

·         Computer Skills - the ability to send/receive emails, complete/submit electronic timesheets

Qualifications:

·         Post secondary education an asset.

·         Is familiar with LaFF and its mandate.

·         Experience and familiarity with the not-for-profit sector considered as asset.       

·         Possesses excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

·         Possesses excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with people in a variety of roles.

·         Has the ability to follow directions and work independently with guidance from the staff.

·         Demonstrates initiative and ability to manage competing demands and set priorities.

·         Possess computer skills.

·         Creativity – interest and experience in creating activity packages, sewing projects, attention to detail.

·         Can follow instruction, self starter.

·         Can follow through with jobs in a timely manner.

·         Punctual.

Terms of Employment:

This position is for 30hrs/week for a 9-week term. 

Hourly wage:  $19.50

These positions will work between June/July/August
